{Holly Springs Baby Photographer} A Wild Things First Birthday Cake SmashThese adorable little boys have been such a joy to photograph throughout their first year. You can look back at their newborn session here. I've been meeting them every few months to capture their milestones through the Watch Me Grow program. This includes sessions done as a newborn, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. It is so much fun to see babies grow up during their first year. They change so much. As a photographer, it was also nice to photograph them throughout the different seasons. When we were planning the twins' first birthday session, their mom told me that they were planning a birthday party with the theme of Where the Wild Things Are. Everyone loves this classic book and I couldn't wait to see the photo session come together with the same theme. I can't take any credit for the amazing props in this session. Between these little boys' parents and grandma, they put it all together themselves. I was completely impressed by the little white costumes (complete with furry tails) and crowns that their grandma made for the photos. They were absolutely perfect. We met for the session at Sugg Farm in Holly Springs. This a very pretty location that is quiet and tucked away. We thought going down a woodsy path would be a perfect place to set up. We started by capturing some poses of the boys in their costumes playing with their tent. It was inevitable that they discovered some pine cones and tried to munch on them. Yucky! We were surprised that they didn't really show any interest in crawling off the blanket and into the woods. The boys were happily entertained by their tent, blocks, and logs. Despite a forecast for a very hot day, we were able to start so early in the morning that the boys were pretty comfortable even with the long sleeved costumes.
These mossy logs were the perfect prop. They gave the twins something to stand up and lean against, creating a better variety of images. This little guy took some convincing to stand up on his own, even though on any other day he's cruising constantly.
Isn't he the cutest little "wild thing?"
I think I've enjoyed photographing these little guys so much because they are always so happy and have the most adorable facial expressions. This little guy holds up his hand, like he's announcing that he's the king.
After a little bit of playtime, the boys were ready for their cakes. I love how mom and dad brought little cuts of log to place the cakes on. A local grocery store gives free cake smash cakes to babies on their first birthday. What a treat! a vanilla cake went perfectly with the neutral colored theme.
It didn't take long at all for them to discover the deliciousness that is birthday cake. I think they were a little surprised by the wet, sticky texture, though.
Nom nom nom nom nom. Once they really dug in, we stood back nervously watching them, wondering went to cut them off before they overloaded on sugar. It was only 8:00 in the morning, after all.
Just look at these faces. Clearly, they enjoyed themselves.
This was such a fun session to do. I am truly going to miss seeing these little guys every few months, but hopefully I'll still get to see them occasionally. The Wild Things theme was such a creative idea and the family did an awesome job putting it all together.
