{Raleigh NC Newborn Photographer} Baby's In-home portrait session

July 27, 2016  •  6 Comments

On of my favorite things about my photography business is my ability to travel to clients' homes.  It can be challenging to pack up all of my equipment and drive, but I've figured out a way to organize my things to keep the process going to smoothly.  I'm able to visit homes all over the Raleigh area.  This in-home newborn session was in the suburb of Cary.  As a photographer, it is always fun getting to meet a family's new baby, and I love it even more when there is family visiting.  During this session, grandma was visiting from across town.  She was so helpful.  Between the two of us working with the baby, mom was able to take a little break.

I love when my clients request neutral colors.  I've never been a big fan of overly gendered newborn images.  I think there will be plenty of time for tutus and bow ties during their childhood.  It's nice to have portraits that truly focus on how brand new the babies are, without making such a statement about the baby being a boy or a girl.  I do love incorporating pastel and earth tones, too.  This baby girl was absolutely adorable and slept so soundly during her session.

We started with photos shot on a nice, soft flokati rug.  I always start newborn sessions with the baby wrapped up in some fabric.  It always makes them so warm and comfortable.

I love how one little foot is sticking out and she's grabbing the other foot with her hand.  She also had the softest, prettiest head of hair on a newborn baby.

Have I mentioned how much I love when my clients have personal items to use as props.  We used this family quilt with the baby girl.  She obviously thought it was nice and comfortable.

We were also lucky to get a few shots of baby girl with her mommy.  This tiny newborn phase doesn't last long, so it's important to capture some family portraits during the photography session.  The window light looked so natural and pretty.

This was such a fun session to do.  I truly love my job and consider myself to blessed to get to photograph babies and families. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure it's real.
