Fuquay Varina Family Photographer- A Little Girl's Paradise
I was so excited when I heard from a former colleague (back from my teaching days) that she wanted to book a portrait session for her two granddaughters. I was thrilled to hear that she wanted to have the pictures taken on her own property, two acres that included woods, gardens, and a pond. I met her and her two granddaughters an a warm summer evening. Summers in Raleigh can be very hot, but we lucked out and the weather was very nice. The two little girls were 4 years old and one year old and they took a bit of convincing to get in front of the camera. I think these pictures captured their cute little personalities.
I made a little floral crown for this little girl's portraits. It took a lot of persuading to get her to try it, but I think she liked it.
Here is a more serious face. She wasn't so sure about meeting a new person. Her grandma had a really neat old shed with cedar siding on the property.
Little sister did not want anything to do with having her picture taken for at least the first half our. A lot of photographing little kids is having the patience to let them warm up to me and letting them get comfortable at their own pace. I never rush them. This little cutie loved her grandma so much that she didn't want to leave her side for any pictures. She eventually became comfortable and even started to have fun.
What a bright, sweet little face she had. There is so much to explore at grandma's house, from flowers to leaves, and even a pond. I'll let you in on a little secret. In some photos, like this one, you may wonder if it was safe. There are many ways to take photos of children and keep them safe. I didn't want this little girl to sit out on the dock alone, especially with it being a few feet above the water. Her aunt, who helped us during the session, was actually sitting right next to her on the dock, but you can't see her in the final edit. This is true of many newborn portraits too- there is usually a parent right next to the baby or even touching the baby, but you don't see them in the final edited version.
Summer is often overlooked as a great time to have family or children's portraits done. The colors of summer are so beautiful, and it is such a special time of year for kids, a time when they can spend more time outdoors exploring. Although the days are often hot, I do all of my sessions either early in the morning or in the evening before sunset. Most of the time, the temperature is very comfortable.
