Newborns and Nature

January 06, 2015  •  4 Comments

I'd like to take a moment to share this sweet little guy's session from earlier this fall.  Last year, I discovered that not only to I have a passion for photographing newborns, I discovered how much newborn babies love being photographed outdoors.  I have always loved the outdoors.  Nature offers such unique backdrops for newborn portraits.  The colors and textures just cannot be replicated in a studio (although I also love studio sessions for other reasons).  Outdoor newborn photography is a growing trend.  Many photographers are realizing the beauty that comes from a newborn sleeping in the shade of a willow tree on a warm summer morning or a newborn in slumber in the woods, soothed by a gentle warm breeze.  If you are looking for a different kind of newborn portraiture experience, something different, something breathtaking to fill the walls of your home, then consider an outdoor newborn session.

Without further ado, let me introduce you to this sweet little boy.  We completed this outdoor session at Crowder District Park in Apex, NC.  I was immediately drawn to this patch of ivy.  It gives the image a stunning green color as well as amazing texture.

The little grayish brown blanket in these images is one of my new favorites.  It is from my friend Kristel's shop.  She owns Toppled Turtle, a shop where she sells her knits, including soft, cozy props for newborn photography.

Oh no, someone decided to wake up!  I love newborn images where you get to see those beautiful eyes.

I'm kind of proud of this little bonnet and pants set.  I knitted it myself (without a pattern too!), from the softest yarn I think I've ever felt.  I believe it's baby alpaca wool and it's divine.

If you are expecting and are interested in a unique look for your maternity and newborn sessions, I would love to provide a session for you.  I am able to do outdoor sessions typically from April through October.  It needs to be at least in the 70s so that baby is warm and comfortable.  Outdoor newborn sessions are typically done at local parks, but if you have a garden or patch of greenspace on your property, I am always happy to come to your home and do a combined indoor and outdoor session.  I can be reached at erica@ericacourtinephotography.com .
